What is Substance Use Disorder Transitional Housing (SUDTH)?
SUDTH is a licensed program that provides services in temporary residential housing that includes screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of drug or alcohol use disorders for people with HIV (PWH). By creating a safe and supportive environment, clients can focus on their recovery, receive the support needed to maintain sobriety, and improve their overall well-being.
What is the goal of the SUDTH program?
The goal of the SUDTH program is to help PWH successfully transition to permanent housing and:
- Assist clients with reducing or stopping substance use (i.e., alcohol, legal/illegal drugs)
- Support HIV treatment adherence in order to reach and maintain a low HIV viral load (Undetectable=Untransmittable)
- Improve the client’s social life, self-esteem, and quality of life

- Assess readiness for treatment & recovery
- Medication-assisted therapy
- Medication for mental disorders
- Harm reduction
- Counseling
- Relapse prevention
How do I access these services?
You can access these services by referral and working with your Case Manager or Benefits Specialist. If you are not already receiving services from the provider listed below, you may need to confirm that you are eligible for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP). They may ask you to provide documentation confirming your HIV diagnosis, current income (if any), health insurance (if any), and that you live in Los Angeles County. SUDTH services are free for those with a qualifying income .
